Friends Forever: 09/24/22
Friends Forever by Shannon Hale and LeUyen Pham (Illustrations) (2021) is the third book in the Friends graphic memoir series. Shannon is in eighth grade and she's struggling to keep afloat when whatever she does doesn't seem to be enough. This volume shows brutally how toxic her home life was. It shows how misogyny, patriarchy, and religion conspires to keep children, especially girls, in their place. A side story is how Shannon participated in theater. While it didn't end up being her calling, it did end up being a safe space for her when so many other places in her life weren't. Four stars Comments (0) |
